There is a lot of current interest in the Eastern art and science of feng shui. The problem is that many people would like to learn what feng shui is and how it can be applied, but they are receiving conflicting advice. There are many online stores selling feng shui wind chimes, feng shui jade, feng shui crystals and feng shui trees.
Do feng shui trees actually exist and if so, what are they? How do you use them? Are there fake feng shui trees for sale and if so, how do you know? Let’s have a closer look at the answers to these questions and then you can decide whether or not you still want a feng shui tree.
The Five Elements of Feng Shui
You might already know the five elements of feng shui. They are water, fire, wood, metal and earth. These natural elements are able to live harmoniously together in nature and they are thought to bring harmony to your indoor living environment too. This is where feng shui trees can come in useful.
If one of your rooms is very strong with one element, it should be balanced with another. A white bathroom, for example, has a very pristine and clean feel to it because of the color. White is a water color which is associated with cleanliness. Too much white can make your bathroom feel sterile, cold and almost surgical. A wood element is what is required to tone down the white. You could use a small feng shui tree with brown and gold in an all-white bathroom. You can also use the tree in a white kitchen. White can make a room feel larger and brighter than it is but it can also be overpowering.
A lot of people living in small apartments and homes are encouraged to use white to make the rooms look bigger. This leads to the danger of having too much white, which makes the rooms seem unwelcoming and sterile. This obviously is not a good feeling for the hearth of the home!
The Fire Element and the Money Tree
Some people believe that if you have a feng shui tree in your home and you tie coins to it, wealth will come your way. This is, of course, rooted in superstition rather than logic, which is why many modern feng shui practitioners reject this idea.
There is some use for feng shui trees though. Many money trees have bright red ribbons tied around them, which offsets the golden brown branches. These ribbons can introduce the fire element to any room that needs it. For example, if your living room has a very strong earth element because it is painted in browns, the fire element can help to harmonize the room and be an interesting centerpiece.
Now you can see how and where feng shui trees can be useful. They might not bring the wealth and good luck you were led to believe but they can definitely add an important accent to your feng shui home.

How Feng Shui Crystals Work
May 27th, 2008 by Feng Shui Secrets Revealed
Do you remember finding out that Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy didn’t exist? You might have been disappointed at the time but looking back as an adult I am sure you can laugh about those things now. Doesn’t it seem a bit silly to have believed in them before?
When talking about feng shui crystals and similar things, a lot of people might also be disappointed to find out that there is no such thing in the real application and science of feng shui.
When Chinese feng shui was introduced to the western world, it became intermingled with various New Age thinking and beliefs. This adulterated the true art and science of feng shui. Plenty of unscrupulous people decided to jump on the bandwagon, using the popularity of this new art and science and started slapping feng shui labels on pretty much any product for a quick sale. This is how feng shui candles were born, feng shui ornaments and feng shui crystals, when in fact there is no such thing! People in the west did not know enough about this eastern science to realize it was a hoax.
Before you start feeling disappointed or betrayed like you did when you realized that Santa Claus was merely an invention, let’s have a look at the try history and uses of “feng shui crystals” and find out whether some reasoning and logic might help you understand this a bit more.
The Real Principles of Feng Shui
A lot of people don’t understand the real simplicity behind the art which is feng shui. They thing you need to hire a feng shui expert to explain every major point of application in their life or home. This is why a lot of them bought the feng shui crystals. If they are willing to believe what a so-called expert tells them or believe in a product just because of what the label says, it is easy for them to be taken advantage of.
Feng shui is all about peace, balance, positive energy and harmony. There is no talisman or magic bullet that can bring these things into your life. For example, if your spouse won’t talk to you or if you are having a secret affair, all the crystals in the world won’t magically bring your marriage back to its former health. You might hang a hundred feng shui crystals all over your bedroom mirror but your relationship will still contain much chaos and disharmony as before.
One vital aspect of feng shui is de-cluttering your life. It is true that sometimes negative life elements affect us more than the positive ones. If you remove useless, old things that don’t bring anything positive and just drain us or depress us, this can do wonders in ushering in the positive energy we are seeking. De-cluttering encourages way more positive energy than any feng shui crystal could ever do.
When Feng Shui Crystals Can Be Useful
Some people just like the way crystals look. These might be natural crystal wands, tumbled and polished crystals or ornaments featuring crystals. They reflect the light and can add brightness to a dark room or corner. If you like crystal ornaments because of this or you like to look at the crystal hanging from your rearview mirror, then keep it. There is nothing in the feng shui principles that recommends you not to have it.

Decorating and Feng Shui – When Art and Science Meet!
May 22nd, 2008 by Feng Shui Secrets Revealed
If you are thinking about remodeling your home, you might be interested to know how feng shui can work together with decorating for great results and wondering if you can introduce some feng shui principles into your home.
Actually, feng shui and decorating are a blend of both art and science. There are no hard and fast rules about applying feng shui to your life. There are a lot of experts who can advise you but it will be up to you to make the final decisions about what you do and don’t like. A true feng shui guide will never tell you that you have to paint this room that color or put this object there. They can advise and give you tips but the end result should be something you feel totally comfortable and happy with.
This aspect of feng shui and decorating is the part which can be called art. The rest is down to subjectivity. There are no rights or wrongs because what is appealing to one person might be unappealing to another. We all have different personal tastes.
There is plenty of advice when it comes to using color to create tension, energy and mood and also when it comes to de-cluttering your living space, but there are no set rules about this either. One person might view their ornaments as prized possessions and feel happy every time they look at them. To another person, these items might be considered unnecessary dust collectors and serve no other function apart from being in the way.
When you are using feng shui in conjunction with decorating, you should show balance and exercise caution. What you might see as clutter-free, someone else might see as sterile and cold, or vice versa. There are no rules and no right or wrong answers. You just need to interpret the feng shui principles for yourself and decide what is appealing to you and what looks good in your home.
Decorating and feng shui are also to do with science as well as art. There are facts behind de-cluttering, color and so on. Scientists know how tense people feel when their environment is cluttered. Color does actually affect our moods. Warm colors can promote feelings of relaxation and tranquility. Bold, bright colors can be a great pick-me-up and promote vitality. Soft colors can be calming whereas vibrant shades can make you feel in control and full of energy.
Also, the entryway to your home and every room sets the tone or mood. This can be compared to the first impression you get when meeting somebody. The first impression can affect your whole relationship with that person.
When you are apply decorating and feng shui principles, you need to consider that first impression because it is very important. You can stand in the entryway to each room and see how you feel. Does the room in question feel inviting or does it feel off-putting.
If you apply these simple principles of decorating and feng shui, you can start experiencing the art and he science of this ancient practice, with highly beneficial results.

Feng Shui’s History: What’s Fact, and What’s Fiction?
May 17th, 2008 by Feng Shui Secrets Revealed
When you’re learning about the ancient art of feng shui, you might be interested in the real story behind feng shui itself. What you want to know, likely, is the real story behind it, and not just the legend or hearsay. It’s not only interesting to investigate this, but it’s a good idea as well. Why is this so? Unfortunately, when feng shui tradition began to be introduced to the Western world, a lot of misconceptions and even untruths began to be confused with the original and real practice.
Feng Shui’s Real History in Ancient China
Asian cultures have always seemed to place a lot of importance on peace, harmony and balance. In Japan, for example, Zen masters taught that hard work and simplicity were keys to peaceful success. In China, it has been believed that you need to respect your surroundings if you want to be at peace.
In its history, feng shui has stories that illustrate how Chinese experts thought that the earth gave off a strong energy that one should welcome into his or her home. Similarly, by contrast, certain practices also discouraged this energy, and brought disruption and chaos into the home.
Therefore, the Chinese believed that they could arrange their buildings and even furniture and other accessories so as to best respect this energy, thus bringing harmony and balance into one’s life.
Feng Shui in the West
Once feng shui began to be introduced to Western cultures, its history became muddled. This may have been in part because there were doubtless at least some unscrupulous people who thought that they could make a quick buck by swaying unsuspecting prey unfamiliar with feng shui as an art.
In addition, many New Age elements had begun to be introduced and were confused as being part of feng shui history. In reality, though, these New Age elements have nothing to do with what is true feng shui. For example, crystals, star shaped mirrors, red front doors and other elements are all among these New Age non-feng shui elements.
In addition, some have claimed that feng shui can heal you if you’re sick, bring prosperity and wealth, and accomplish several other amazing miracles. However, true feng shui history has none of these statements in it. Those who practiced it historically had never made such far-flung statements.
However, these experts did firmly believe that using feng shui in the right way can bring positive energy to life. Use of feng shui energy can mean good things as long as you also work to accomplish them yourself. However, feng shui is in no way a “magic pill” that will heal, cure or otherwise influence outside factors positively by itself.
What Is Real Feng Shui History?
If you really are interested in learning more about the art and science of feng shui, one of the first things you’ll need to do is to understand its true history. If you don’t, you could become a victim of one of these so-called “experts” who might tell you falsehoods or half-truths about its use and true applications.
In reality, feng shui history is about balance, harmony, positive energy and order. If you hear stories that don’t include at least one of these elements, it’s likely that what you’re simply hearing is folklore, so you should ignore it. However, once you understand the absolute truths behind this art form, you’ll be better equipped to really appreciate and use true feng shui in your own life and home.

The Are No Rules of Feng Shui
May 14th, 2008 by Feng Shui Secrets Revealed
Do you like rules? If you are like most people, you won’t. In general, people appreciate guidelines to keep them on track but we all like to have some room for free expression rather than feeling restricted in what we can and cannot do.
This is why the ancient science and art of feng shui is so enjoyable. There are some important principles to follow but there are no hard and fast rules which must be adhered to.
So if there aren’t any rules to feng shui, how can we apply it?
The answer is that there are no rules. There are only principles.
A rule is something rigid and harsh and does not allow for freedom, judgment, expression or personal choice. It is also something that you have to follow, whether you agree with it or not and whether you like it or not. A stop sign, for example, is a rule and not a suggestion.
A principle is different from a rule, in that it is guidance which allows for a certain degree of freedom. A principle can be compared to a ceiling with a lot of movement underneath it. You cannot come higher than the ceiling but you have the freedom to do what you want underneath it as long as you stick to the height guideline.
If you were thinking that feng shui is a set list of strict rules which have to be adhered to, you will be pleased to know that it is not like that at all. Feng shui is about making your home and work environments work for you personally. The personal factors that you can enjoy and appreciate the renewed energy and vitality they bring into your life are not the same factors that work for every person. Saying that there are feng shui rules is actually counterproductive to the entire feng shui science.
The feng shui principles are very different. Let’s look at the use of color. Feng shui practitioners will tell us that bring colors add vitality and energy to a space. In rooms where you want energy, such as the kitchen, you should use yellows, reds or oranges.
The way you use this principle depends on your personal taste. Imagine if the feng shui “rules” dictated that you have to paint your kitchen yellow and you hate yellow! What works for many people is to introduce the color in small amounts rather than painting the whole room. You might want some yellow or orange accents, such as chairs in that color or kitchen units or even the flooring. You can do whatever appeals to your sense of beauty and makes the kitchen a vibrant place.
Creating Your Own Feng Shui Rules
It is up to you how you use feng shui in your own home because it has to work for you personally. If your feng shui advisor insists that you follow the “feng shui rules” be cautious because there is no such thing.

An Overview of the Five Elements of Feng Shui
May 10th, 2008 by Feng Shui Secrets Revealed
While discussing about the age old subject of Feng Shui, the five elements are often mentioned in every context. What are these elements and what is their significance? This article aims to explain the five elements and their application in Fengshui.
The Basics of the Five Elements of Feng Shui
The five elements of Feng Shui are namely earth, fire, water, wood and metal, which are the natural elements. These elements can combine to form a circle of creation or annihilation as explained below:
Creation: : Wood has the ability to give rise to fire; the heat or the power of fire (e.g. sun) is used to nourish the earth; metal is obtained from the earth; constituents of metal can create water; wood is nourished by water.
Destruction: fire consumes metal; metal in the form of instruments like axe etc demolish Wood; earth nourishes trees or wood; water is absorbed by the dirt in the earth; fire can be completely annihilated by water.
The Synchronization of the Five Elements of Feng Shui
The main concept of Feng Shui states that all elements need to exist in equilibrium and conformity; too much of a single element in one area or a single room can be harmful and inharmonious. Most of the times most rooms can have one element in excess and require another element to create a harmonious atmosphere. For instance, let’s take the example of an all-white bathroom. The color white represents cleanliness and purity and signifies water.
On the other hand, an all white bathroom can look cold and barren. If another element of the five elements of fengshui like the earth is included, then it can help to reduce that look of bareness. It’s a good idea to use items such as towels and artwork in a warm brown shade. On the contrary too much of brown in the living room can cause claustrophobia and make the room feel too overwhelming. Here, an element like fire can neutralize the brown. The brown can be livened up by red shades of pillows and afghans.
This concept of balance of the five elements in fengshui has a use in every facet of your life. Let’s say you have a very strong persona and a fiery nature. Sounds impressive, but then too much of strength can be overwhelming to people around you. For instance a camp fire looks good within confines and an uncontrolled forest fire can be dangerous.
Hence, you can think of toning down your personality, like the warm and giving earth, your persona can do with some warm and nurturing shades to make it more likeable. This can also make you a more objective and a pleasant human being.
There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to the application of the five elements of Feng Shui to your room or your life. The main concept to remember is that the elements of Feng Shui should be in sync and should balance each other out and take in the finer aspects as much as doable.
